15 year reunion

I.C. West Class of '98,

If ya'll want a 15 year reunion, someone else will need to take responsibility for it.  I will not be in I.C. to facilitate such a gathering this summer.  I am happy to be the medium for information and you can feel free to use this website.  You can post a comment with contact information if you want to be in charge.  And/or email me at morriss0_0_6@hotmail.com.  I created a Facebook page for our class a few years ago and you are welcome to use that as well.

WHS '98 Reunion - The Final Word

The flooding over the summer and a UI home football game this Saturday have required some modification of the reunion plans. The date (this coming Saturday) and times are generally the same, but the locations have changed a little...

Saturday, August 30, Noon to 5 p.m. - BYO-everything picnic/general gathering in Upper City Park at shelters number 2 and 3. These are the shelters closest to the swimming pool. No alcohol in City Park. There are grills and covered tables at both shelters.

Saturday, August 30, 8 p.m. to close - The best of I.C.'s now-entirely-smoke-free nightlife. Since it is a football weekend, most places will be pretty packed, so it will be tough for everyone to gather in one place. I wanted to rent the upstairs of the Airliner for a few hours, but they wanted to charge me hundreds of dollars an hour for it, so F that. I propose a bar crawl of sorts up Washington St. and Iowa Ave. I have picked a few places that might be less crowded and that might be able to accommodate most, if not all, of the people who show up.

8 p.m. The Picador (formerly Gabe's) at 330 E. Washington St. Music upstairs; primary alcohol ingestion station downstairs; tables outside in the back.

9 p.m. The Industry (formerly the Que Bar) at 211 Iowa Ave. They now have a stage where the pool tables used to be. The upstairs also contains a bar. There is some sort of funk night this Saturday.

10 p.m. The cluster of bars at Dubuque St. and Iowa Ave.: The Deadwood, Dublin Underground, and, yes, even the Sports Column for the bravest among us.

11 p.m. Joe's Place. Since I see about twenty WHS '98 grads there every time I walk in, it seems the logical choice for our ultimate gathering point.

So, there it is. Our class reunion. Magnificent.

I won't be getting into town until 1:30 or 2pm on Saturday, so can I get a few volunteers to get to City Park a little early and perhaps make a couple signs for both the Lower and Upper City Park entrances to point people in the right direction? I'd appreciate it.

Class of '98 Reunion: Labor Day 2008

We will indeed, despite my laziness and procrastination, have a ten-year reunion. It will take place over Labor Day weekend. So far, I only have events for Saturday, August 30. If other people would like to do more, perhaps we can figure something out, but I thought people might like the rest of the weekend to do things with family (if they have any in town these days) and/or with particular people from our class outside of the group events.

So, the events are as follows:

Saturday, August 30 from noon to 5 pm: Picnic and grill-out at City Park. I have reserved two shelters near the ponds and the outdoor theater. This event will be BYO-everything. Get in touch with some people and bring whatever you would like to grill or eat. Not sure what the alcohol policy is in City Park, so check that out on your own and keep your flasks in your pockets. That said, I envision this as a more family-friendly event, so, yeah...

Saturday, August 30 from 9 pm to 2am: Drinks at the upstairs section of the Airliner. I wrote my credit card info on a bar tab and gave it to a dude who purported to be in charge at the Airliner, so hopefully we will have it reserved when I call back in a month or two. I do not envision this as a family-friendly event, so, yeah...

And there it is. Our ten-year reunion. Glorious. Email me if you have questions: morriss0_0_6@hotmail.com

Iowa City West, Class of '98, Ten Year Reunion

To The I.C. West Class of 1998,

We will have a ten year reunion sometime during the summer of 2008. It will most likely take place over a random weekend in June. In reviewing the past few reunions of the classes that graduated before us, this seems to be the usual pattern of things. I suggested Memorial Day weekend, but apparently many of you have active social and family lives and will be doing other things that weekend. And I am okay with that.

So, please check back to this space sometime this winter. I will look in to possible places to hold an event or events and will gladly take suggestions as to what you would like to do. I am thinking about some sort of Saturday afternoon event in the out-of-doors as well as some sort of evening drinks.

Feel free to respond to this post below or email me at morriss0_0_6@hotmail.com

Possible Reunion

Iowa City West Class of '98 and others who find themselves here randomly,

I suppose it falls upon me as our former class president to do something. Anything really. And that something I choose to do is make an announcement about a possible class reunion.

I always thought I would be too cool to attend a class reunion, let alone be proactive enough to make an announcement about one, but then I realized that I reached the apex of my social and intellectual life somewhere in the middle of my junior year at West and now I will do anything it takes to get that feeling back, if only for a night.

So, even if you were too cool to come to school when we were supposed to, you still have a chance to do something to make yourself feel better about that sometime in the near future. I mean, whats not to like? A reunion allows you to see the same people with whom you spent your awkward pubescent years with the kind of hindsight that allows you to make fun of the people who used to make fun of you. You can all start with me. I can guarantee you I will be fatter and more hairy than I was in school. Not that thats especially difficult, since I weighed about a buck twenty and had about as much body hair as a 4th grader.

Im not sure when people have class reunions - like, if they are in the summer or over the winter holidays - but Im sure we can do whatever we want, if anything. Probably not this year. Maybe not even next summer, but I think it might be fitting to have it in an irregular year. My email address is posted below my name. Let me know if youre interested. And feel free to hit me up with ideas as to when, where, and how we can pull off a class reunion. Let me just say right now that it will NOT be at the Sports Column.
